Meet Finley

Hello All!

I’m Finley, the new Executive Canine Quality Control Officer here at Cascade Kennels. Unfortunately my job title won’t fit on my dog tag, but oh well, guess I’ll live. Anywho, I suppose I should tell you a little bit about who I am and what it is I do here!

I’m a year and a half old, and thanks to the wonderfully gender-neutral name my humans gave me, I should mention that I am a girl. I’m apparently small (I don’t feel like I am, but whatever!), and I’m told I’m some sort of Corgi mix. Given my awesome, wild, wiry hair and my spunky attitude I’m guessing there’s some kind of terrier in my blood too. Simply put, I’m amazing.

Before I came to work here at Cascade Kennels, I somehow found myself in a shelter in Texas. A very nice man saw me and knew I was special. Long story short, he bailed me out, and after a few months and a series of phonecalls I made my way up here to Washington where my dear sweet parents were waiting for me. One of my humans, Chris, is the daycare supervisor at CK, so I started coming to work every day to help run things. I have been told I’m slightly bossy. I call that “management.” What did they do here without me!?

A few months after becoming part of the team here, I got my big promotion! As mentioned above, I am now the Executive Canine Quality Control Officer. I saw a real need to give a voice from the canine perspective, and I felt I was just the dog for the job. My qualifications are a-plenty — I board here, I come to daycare every day, I get groomed (usually not voluntarily), and most importantly… I’m a DOG!

I aim to keep every human out there more in-the-know about what’s on us dog’s minds. Keep an eye out for my upcoming articles where I’ll be updating you about all sorts of stuff, from what’s going on here at CK, to covering topics that have to do with me and my fellow canines, and fielding questions from doggie parents!

And that’s the way the dog cookie crumbles…

Good night, and good dog…

And that’s the woof it is…

…Ok, so I haven’t got my sign off down yet! Give it some time!

Sincerely BARK,

Finley

Did Somebody Say BACON!!!

 3 slices of bacon, diced

1 egg
1/3 cup creamy natural peanut butter (or Sunbutter)

1 tablespoon maple syrup (bacon + maple seemed like a good idea)

3 tablespoons water
1/2 cup soy flour
1/2 whole wheat pastry flour
1/2 cup wheat germ

-Preheat oven to 300 degrees and line two baking sheets with parchment paper.

-Fry the diced bacon until crispy. With a slotted spoon, remove the crispy bacon but save the fat. Allow the fat to cool slightly (2-5 minutes)
-Add the egg, peanut butter, maple syrup and water to the bacon fat and mix thoroughly.
-Add in the flours and wheat germ and mix until combined. Stir in the crispy bacon pieces.
-Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface to about 1/4″ thick. Cut into desired shapes. I used three different 1″ cookie cutters.
-Bake in the oven for 12-15 minutes (for 1″ diameter shapes) until lightly browned.
-Cool and make them beg for it.

SF Mutt Roo! Named Best Mixed-Breed At Westminster

NEW YORK (CBS/AP) – A husky mix called Roo!, owned by trainer Stacey Campbell of San Francisco, got a special award on Saturday for the best mixed-breed dog at the the Westminster Kennel Club show’s first agility competition.

The agility trial added a dynamic, fast-growing sport to the nation’s best-known dog show and marked the first time mixed-breed dogs have appeared there in 130 or more years. Dogs are judged on accuracy and speed as they navigate jumps, tunnels, ramps and other objects off-leash, with handlers guiding them via calls and signals.
